Consultant Ecologist – Edinburgh - Edinburgh
My client, a Global multi-disciplinary consultancy, is looking for a talented Consultant Ecologist to join their Environmental team in Edinburgh. This business work with a wide and varied client group to provide high quality technical services in areas including environmental, energy, sustainability, water, landscape architecture, transport and infrastructure. As a Consultant Ecologist, you will join a well-established Environmental team and will help to deliver and manage a broad range of Ecological services across the Region.


The successful candidate will be educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject discipline and will ideally have a further qualification, such as a Masters. You will be expected to be a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or be eligible for membership. To be considered for this role, you will have extensive experience carrying out ecological surveys, assessments and producing technical reports and documents. You will also demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be computer literate with skills in MSOffice.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with a range of protected species and will hold at least one protected species licence (E.g. GCN, bat, dormouse). The successful candidate should also have experience of, or be familiar with, Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRA). You will be confident liaising with clients, sub-contractors and stakeholders, as well as being able to project a professional image to clients and colleagues. You will be happy to work independently when required and will show the ability to work on your own initiative.


Working as a Consultant Ecologist, you will play an important role in the delivery and management of ecological surveys, assessments, mitigation, advisory work and reporting. You will provide high quality ecological consultancy services by undertaking both office and field work, including EIA, EcIA and HRA tasks. You will also receive training to manage small projects independently, to build on your current project management experience.

You will also be expected to support the preparation of tender documents and proposals as well as assisting in the general marketing of the company. You will form strong working relationships with customers and clients, maintaining these relationships and identifying opportunities for follow-up work.
